caLLie cLine - mind the capitalisation! - is the proud owner of the caLLie cLine brand and the grOOve creative group. First rezzed 3 years and 3 days ago, - because Pierre Omidyar and Sue Stonebender invited her - she keeps to Second Life as her primary virtual world. Miss cLine's first experience with Second Life was one that is all to familiar to most of us: 'Getting a box stuck on my head for about 3 days, it was very frustrating. i learned to finally dress with the experience of "live help". I made my first horrible t-shirt sometime in early 2006, I think. I don't remember.'

Using Photoshop - and some other top secret stuff - for virtual fashion creation, caLLie cLine is inspired by both past & future, anywhere you can go in a time machine. Creating fashion for anyone, be it furries, tinies, dragons, nekos or even Lindens, the caLLie cLine brand is flirtatious and fabulous. And her favourite piece of art at Black Swan? 'Hmmmm. I like the blue glowing water, it sets the stage for all the amazing work to be shown. But it's my favorite, calming soothing, ahhhhhh.' More about caLLie cLine at bLogspot.com.

"All students of popular culture should be intrigued by Callie Cline - the Second Life avatar that's fast becoming a real-world celebrity. Tapped by Maxim, last year, as one of their 'HOT 100"; Callie has since worked as the official 'spokesavatar' for Pontiac, (the first time in history an avatar was signed as a spokesperson) and has been profiled in Elle, Vogue, Marie-Claire, even Newsweek. (and more)

Though Callie seems to share pop-culture DNA with the products of Disney and Pixar, she's not a collaborative corporate product. Nor is she an AI-driven construct, like William Gibson described in his novel 'Idoru.' She's the unique creation of one real -- and very talented -- woman, who designed the avatar, clothes it in couture also of her own making, and manifests its persona in realtime -- remaining otherwise anonymous.

As such, Callie Cline is something brand-new. A cyborg: all human, but transcending flesh. And she prefigures a time -- soon coming -- when the very mechanism of celebrity changes in response to what this implies: jumping over the physical bar of 'looks and charisma,' and opening up to admit broader and more nuanced scopes of talent.
