Votes show dedication to Second Life, but future seems more about new players

Poll results show a lot of dedication to Second Life--but comments suggest that the future is more about the emerging virtual world platforms--some of which are barely known at all now. Is it commitment to SL or hope beyond hope? SL continues to show brisk enuff new lands sales and concurrency bouncing near 70,000. LL says (http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/07/17/update-on-mainland-supply/) they are targetting $L7.25/m2, which is roughly $1570USD for an entire region (so 50% more then individual land you could buy direct from LL, if you wanted to and you could afford it). But this still seems a bit misleading--due to the void sims now dominating the grid which have a $L 1.15/m2 when purchased or flipped. Actually m2 is not a good thing to look at all. Better to look at cost per prim--which on LL tariff is about $USD0.06 on a full region and $USD0.09 on a void. Either way, kinda hard to see how LL can expect to get $USD0.10/prim which is their $L7.25/m2 converted to $USD/Prim cost. This is especially true as some many people in our little poll are talking about new opensource virtual world platforms where land prices will (maybe) be irrelevant altogether. Our little poll had quite a few views and some good comments. We put together a Virtual World Platforms watch list (link below) from some of what we picked-up there. We will be adding to this and collecting more details about some of these worlds and what is going on in them.
