Virtual Sex Better Than Real Marriage?

Sky News reports "Woman Divorces Over Virtual Lover":

The couple spent hours having fun together in Second Life - her avatar, or alter ego, in the 3D virtual world was Laura Skye, and his Dave Barmy.

But her dreams were shattered three months later when she went for an afternoon nap and woke to find the jobless 40-year-old having sex with an escort girl in the game.

Says Amy Taylor (RL Woman)

"I caught him cuddling a woman on a sofa in the game. It looked really affectionate," she said. "He turned off the computer monitor, and I turned it back on and demanded to look at his chat history."

Gee, better watch what your avatar is up to. But not sure even in SL that cuddling and "sex" are the same thing. Seems a bit harsh---bet there is more to this story. Is being a camper also ground for divorce? Also looks like Second Life is generating work for UK divorce lawyers.

Well, anyway it seems to have turned out ok for Amy as she has met a new boyfriend in WoW! Maybe she needs a WoW Pod?

Beyond virtual world stereotypes

Really, who could have guessed... *sighs*

Don't blame SL!

According to the BBC, sex in SL is 'rudimentary'

Thanks to this, the BBC has an article up titled 'How do avatars have sex?'

  • First characters need to buy genitals
  • They control their characters' movements using the keyboard and mouse
  • Male characters can get aroused and have intercourse with female ones, but graphic depictions are very rudimentary

I think they did not invest enough L$ in their article research. :D That and they should have the decency to link to the bloggers they are quoting. Tsss. And furries are not animals. I think.

Guess the Beeb hasn't heard

Guess the Beeb hasn't heard about Teledildonics yet either! Sinulator and Fleshlight...sounds like the kinda battery-powered toys that should be used in an immersive work-open-space.  Just be careful not to cross the leads from you ipod or hook that baby up in you WoWpod!

(and doesn't that look like fun :0 ... not sure, but there seems to be some user error on part of that? OMG have i been doing it wrong? /me make note to improve first hour experience )

more details at Wired from Regina Lynn who said back in 2004 about teledildonics: "As for me, well, I'm enjoying the novelty of it. I'm on the road as I write this week's column, and I can honestly say that the Sinulator beats the pocket rocket hands down, even if I am getting strange looks from the other Starbucks patrons."

I question the timing of the

I question the timing of the BBC article and the Daily Mail article.

Clearly, it's an example of two British reporters signaling each other that they want to engage in raw virtual animal sex with each other.

I say, let 'em. Beats the hell out of 10,000 more articles about Lady Diana.

Re: user error

I can only wonder about the 'satefy hazzard' warnings on those things. 'Do not put in microwave. Do use on cat. Etc.' But at least - according to that gif -  they are obviously pro inter-racial? :D

Mitch at Information Week

Mitch at Information Week clearly stirred by this story (er...) asks Is It Adultery If The Sex Happens In Second Life? which is sorta like asking is it cheating if you don't get caught? Is there a zen point about this? If a prim penis ejaculates in the metaverse and is not felt, it does not count? Mitch quotes Kamath as saying: "It 'happened' in your mind. That's all that matters. Answer: yes"--yikes! Which is a notion that certainly something that scares the crap out of me. It's one thing to have to "control" my avatar, but let's not get crazier and start being accountable for what goes on in my head all day long!!  If Clintion can try to talk his way out of a blow-job in the White House, seems like a few pose balls shouldn't be admissable in court.
