I was half-asleep watching the random punts offered up on Current TV and caught what they call a "rant" about Second LIfe. Some the stuff on Current is really xlent although I must say that many of the reporters seem oddly suprised about the stories they cover. It is sorta nice in some way to see reporters that are not so hardened and self-important. Anyway, this piece about SL was published in on their site first in Feb 2008 and still they show it in August...so guess they a little low on current stuff on current? Anyway...this vid by CJ Davies was painfully droll as only the brits can be. For sure a few chuckles and the expense of LL and er...I guess us as SL inmates/residents. Maybe things even 6 months are the same-ish even though we seem think things are more interesting.
Of course you would like to point to a great vid by SL saying how cool SL really can be...but er..where is that?

Pentagon gurus tracking
Tue, 09/16/2008 - 11:37 — RightAsRain RimbaudPentagon gurus tracking virtual worlds to save the world from terrorists, so not just a bunch of people jumping around CJ! From Wired Blog: "But, mostly, virtual worlds are nerve-wracking to spies because they're so hard to monitor. The accounts are pseudonymous. The access is global. The jargon is thick." wtf, uberspieman? meet me at greenies in the mousehole and i show you my googleearth downloads, cul8r and I be the gangsta alien av.
But looks like lot of police and spies wander the grid (including the Lindens giving up info to the Feds)--so you just never really know who the rl person is behind the escort anymore. Wonder if the spooks can keep any lindens they make on the pole or in the digital bordello? Do they have to declare all the inventory they bought?
Police and spies are wandering the grid, so watch out what you say/bugger:
UK Police (they "probing SL"): http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2008/03/25/fantasy-biz-quiz-by-cops-89520-20362088/
Belgian Police (watch it Vint): http://www.thefword.org.uk/blog/2007/04/rape_in_second
Lindens turnover hackers to FBI: http://secondlife.reuters.com/stories/2008/04/01/rosedale-discloses-fbi-griefing-probe-to-congress/1
and of course CIA : http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/05/AR2008020503144.html
Some of this news is sorta old, but for sure the "authorities" are floating around the grid now, trying to protect us and save us, and also for sure that Linden is storing data about all our activity that they would turnover in a heartbeat if the "authorities" asked for it. Privacy on the grid--hehe.
Russian babes sprinting in
Wed, 09/17/2008 - 15:57 — RightAsRain RimbaudRussian babes sprinting in stillettos...yeah, rl can be more ludicrous than anything. Thanks to Glamour magazine for raising the bar for rl community. Svetlana martinova won btw, but sadly no sparks flying from her heels, although seemed like her mascara ran also... er...stilletto race is kinda good idea maybe?
