Thanks to Mark Kingdon for reminding me to downgrade my premium account -- is like $USD 108/year when I was paying quarterly. I guess only reason to have this is to be able to have a parcel on Mainland? Anyway, there is a nice little feedback form that pops-up when you downgrade. So I suppose another chance to let the Linden Lab team know about why I am not spending more money with them.
Actually, I meant to downgrade this earlier, but I had this parcel on Bay City Old Town that I bought to see what that was all about. I will say that buying on the auction system is kinda fun--and in some idiotic way I felt that buying a 492 prim parcel for $L70,000 was like winner something. But then I realized that I had no use for this parcel and in general there was never anyone there when I wandered over there. So I put the parcel on sale for $L100,000!--and sure enuff someone bought it. So wtf do I really know about SL land value. I guess people still like to burn money for a little place of their own in the metaverse. And the tier there is cheap enuff!
So looks like M saved me some dough and made me some dough in that interview--thanks!

Downgrade
Wed, 11/12/2008 - 20:02 — Crap Mariner (not verified)I'm on the Annual plan, so I've got a reminder in my Blackberry to downgrade the day before that plan is done.
Basic membership anyone?
Wed, 11/26/2008 - 02:22 — Anonymous (not verified)I've downgraded over a year, not so much as an urging from a Second Life Hobo, but from the experience she spoke in her few words. She never told me to do anything, just said there isn't a reason to be paying... Paraphrased of course. And now with the availability of Open Simulator, I don't see myself becoming a 'premium' member again. I can't say I didn't enjoy 'owning' a piece of land in SL, but I found that it was pretty much a money pit to line someone else's pockets.
I actually made $USD on the sale of my 'property' and used the proceeds to fund a premium life style for almost a year before I cashed out. I still carry a $L balance in case I see something I need (it hasn't happened yet) and to upload a new texture every now and then. Funny how it is, when you decide that you don't need to spend money, you still have some for a long time...
I left this as Anonymous just to keep identities still private. I still value that part of SL...
:)
