Accusations running wild

Maybe it's some indication of just how bored people are in SL these days? There has been a small flurry of firey words about how we may have used textures illegally. This is absolutley untrue. It is just a pathetic attempt at traffic generation from these amateur blogs and self-absorbed, drama-loving forums.

Our good name is being slandered across a few blogs and we are being accussed of content theft.   The matter in question are some products we have at Crimson Shadow that have been there for almost a year. Anyway, the challenge is that we illegally made these from some download files sold at an online graphics store. The allegations are groundless. We take issues of rights and content theft very seriously.  I don't think that any company in SL has invested more in original artwork or has more impact from texture ripping than we have had. So it is really distasteful to see anyone accuse us in this way. But SL has more than a few attention seekers trying to draw some action their own way.

Rezzable commissions a lot of art, clothing, skins, builds--well all things really,  from many creators and we make each of them promise, usually with contracts, to us that all the content we buy from them is in fact theirs or they have rights to use the tools or source materials. In this particular case the creator asked and received an email from the original artist approving the usage in SL. Also the terms of this particular download allowed for reuse in whole or with modificiations

For the record, we use the original creator name for our products in most cases. We feel that it is very important to give attribution to the people that make stuff for us--even when we provide the specifications and designs.

Anyway, wouldn't it be more fun to go inworld and get some cool freebie like http://rezzable.com/blog/lokum-shilova/toxic-spider-free-for-three-days-... than clatter away on a forum?

Wow. You have learned from

Wow. You have learned from the masters at Linden Labs themselves. For a moment it sounded like I heard Torley talking, completely avoiding the topic and instead pointing at something shiny.

I for one believe you bought it in good faith from the person who originally uploaded these textures to Second Life. However, the original creator clearly mentioned not to upload them as-is. Now, that isn't Rezzable's fault since you were acting in good faith towards this uploader. However, it would only be the right thing to do now to contact the original creator on Renderosity and if necessary pull the items from SL. Anything else, and I will no longer see you as acting in good faith.

 Daman--you are not correct.

Daman--you are not correct. First, licence on the product allows for reuse in whole or part. Second, the creator we purchase the inworld objects from got specific approval via email from the person that posted the product online for sale. (and what's wrong with Torley? He go to the darkside or something?)

@ what's wrong with Torley?He

@ what's wrong with Torley?

He says much, but his words hold 0 substance.

@ licence on the product allows for reuse in whole or part

License also mentioned not selling as-is. From all I can see, it's being sold as-is. The texture merely got uploaded to SL without any changes.

@ specific approval via email

Have you also seen that approval, or could it be just another lie from that person?

It's disappointing that in

It's disappointing that in the process of defending yourself you sought to insult the largest third party SL forum and all its users in the process.

The discussion that was started about this issue on SLU was largely defending Rezzable, yet nevertheless your defense insulted all of us equally.

It was incredibly disappointing to read and completely unmerited. As someone who thought the accusations were inappropriate, your own behavior in this announcement has overshadowed my previous support.

Another perfect example of

Another perfect example of someone accusing another without checking into it first. Because Cailyn Miller decided that whatever "proof" was given, it was enough to accuse and go public without checking into it quietly and saving themselves a WHOLE lot of embarassment.

Now the truth has arrived, proof of the email between the texture creator and the eye creator surfaces. Next up?  Starley Therian stolen skin? Was that just another unfounded accusation against Rezzable? Cailyn Miller needs to issue an apology and learn to investigate her sources and information before opening her unprofessional, largely lousy big mouth.

The rest of this posturing is simply attention-grabbing behavior from some mighty small people. I call this one dead.

I hope you throw the book at

I hope you throw the book at her. Maybe losing every penny she has in court for libel would be a bit of a wake up call.

Oh for crying out loud.First

Oh for crying out loud.

First of all, Renderosity sells MANY "merchant resource" packs, including and not limited to eyes.  (Also, head/body bases for characters, which most merchants then use with their own makeup etc)  Reselling as-is means RESELLING THE SOURCE FILES, but selling them as EYEBALLS (not textures) in SL would still fall under the "Not as-is" part of the terms.

Besides all that, regardless of what the license says, obviously permission was asked and acquired.

There IS a difference between a merchant resource pack, and a character pack on renderosity.  And NO ONE seems to pay any attention to this small but important detail.   The whole issue with MMS was NOT that she used renderosity content, it was that she used content that was not licensed to be used in THAT WAY.  Had she purchased a MERCHANT RESOURCE KIT to make the skins, nothing would have been wrong with that; that's what they are FOR.

For those in doubt about the

For those in doubt about the email conversation between the renderosity creator and the eyes creator, obviously, there is still some discussion going on. Also obvious some people will prefer to believe rumours, regardless if they are true or not. I pity those who love to look for the worst in humanity. Yes, content theft in SL is a true problem, but with throwing wild accusations out to everybody, we're not going to fix it.

Thank you Vint for linking

Thank you Vint for linking that letter. It's good that the proof is out for all to see.

It is clear now there was no need to worry, and I'm glad Rezzable is well within their rights regarding the eyes.

Tenshi continues to post this

Tenshi continues to post this libelous garbage without doing any sort of homework whatsoever before smearing someones name through the mud. She has on countless occasions lied to try and cover up her poorly researched "facts". I would take the word of Rezzable, an amazing team of designers with one hell of a reputation, over Tenshi, a known liar and hypocrite who would stop at nothing to get more readers to her blog. As for MMS I don't think they were ever clearly proven to have done anything illegal. Owning a business, believe it or not, depends on that business making money. No income no business. If you want to base your purchases solely on the content being original and created by that specific designer then good for you. But a business using content not created by them in a legal manner by no means deserves your criticism.

I've done some checking,

I've done some checking, there are multiple, failed blogs, that Tenshi has started at one time. As it stands, I can see why. Her/His? credibility is non-existant. This may all be an attention getting on her part. She needs help..BIG time. Needless to say. The Rezzables come through in the respected light that they should. The "Stop Content Theft" blog, also a product of Tenshi's appears to be a mere cover for her obviously historical and conintual ways to stir up lies about people. This is far beyound anything I've ever seen. Or is is really she is jealous of the superior content the Rezzables re-sell from creators who are nothing less than highly talented people. I'd say the Rezzables only crime is that they are a very good judge of quality and character. Speaking of character, have you seen Tenshi's profile on SLProfiles.com? OMG, let alone the profile of her cohort Kendra Coakes.... my..my..would you hire these folks? ROFLMAO  http://www.slprofiles.com/slprofiles.asp?id=5892

@ Joshua--that thread was

@ Joshua--that thread was full of noise and drama. We appreciate those few people supporting us though of course. But in general it is some aweful pile of chars and some showcase for bitter people. And really that thread was self-absorbed and drama-loving--go read all 12+ pages of it.

@ Daman--hope you can see that we review materials professionally. You should also check your facts when posting if you want to stay out of the noise. Not sure what you expect from Torley, but he sure seems to make massive efforts to make tutorials and spread the good news about SL. Maybe give the guy a break?

1) I never accused Rezzable

1) I never accused Rezzable directly. I always gave you the benefit of the doubt and wanted to wait until I saw that letter until making my final conclusion. I'm not a fan of Tenshi at all, and from my first post told her to check with the creator and Rezzable for proof.

2) I used to respect Rezzable for their work, and for most of their creators. But your personal behaviour since this thread popped up has been lowering my opinion on Rezzable's quite a lot. Maybe it's time you stop putting yourself above the Second Life community and see that other people have value as well instead of brushing them off.

3) Regarding Torley, I respect his work and creative talent - and never said I don't. His unprofessional style and avoiding any problems is what bothers me since I'm a very direct person. The standard modus operandi at Linden Lab seems to be that as soon as there's a problem, make a comments disabled post, and immediately follow it up with Torley pointing towards something shiny to distract the "inferior, geeky early adopters" that make up SL - with Mitch Kapor's words.

*stands eating popcorn watching Daman backpedal*

Why don't you just say two words and get on with it? Those two words are "I'm sorry". Goes a long way to show your integrity and maturity.

Tenshi is nothing but drama

Tenshi is nothing but drama and envy, she's just mad Rezzable or anyone she's tried to bring down has the success she lacks. That's why she has a store named "crap" everything is crap and no one bothers to spend a dime on it. I just hope Rezzable takes her sorry ass to court for libel perhaps that will shut her loud mouth.

By the way, whoever doubts the email, here's a link to comments left by the actual Renderosity creator. http://blog.stopcontenttheft.com/?p=607#comment-6213

Terrific! A must

Terrific! A must read!

Opinions of tthose who block their names matter alot!

Voila, it has been done,

Voila, it has been done, Tenshi posted a retraction and an apology to Moxie. Now let's get on with our - virtual - lives: fashion designers, consider being inspired by the passion of Black Swan, those who can't make virtual clothing themselves - or prefer it the easy way - could go and get the free Spider outfit from Toxic and for all there will soon be more than enough hair. ;)

I love you

I love you guys.

*sniffles*

*hugs*

And what's wrong with my slprofiles page?

Just because there is no splintered dildo in my ass means I have to be uptight and take SecondLife seriously?
